Bid Whist Rules
Layout of The Game
1. All games will be played Straight (without a kitty or jokers).
2. Each round will consist of four (4) hands.
3. For 1st and 3rd tournaments there will be 3 rounds and for the 2nd tournament (Main Event) there will be 4 rounds.
4. Progressive bidding (Card & Special bids have equal values). Minimum bid is 1 Card or Special.
5. All 3 tournaments will have a playoff (elimination style).
The Game
1. 1st Diamond will determine the 1st dealer clockwise then after.
2. Deck must be cut by the player to the right of the dealer up to three (3) square cuts.
3. All cards should be dealt facedown clockwise (no cross dealing or sporting cards).
4. Once bid blind is in place on table, players may pick up cards. 1st bid will begin with player to the left of the dealer
5. When bidding, please use the following terms ONLY…
1 (not 1 Card) = Trump bid high cards win
2 Special (not 2 low) = Trump bid low cards win
3 No (not 3 No Trump) = No trump
6. Once the bid has been won, declare trump or direction of No trump (please use up or down for direction, please reframe from using uptown/ downtown). When 1st card is played, the bid blind should be removed, and play continues clockwise in order.
7. In the event, bid winner does not state a trump or direction (no trump), the first card played will be trump. If bid is a no trump, the direction will be automatically up.
8. Bidding team will get what they make. If the bid is set, there will be no negative points given, the opposition team will be awarded points. (ex. Team A bids 4 and is set; Team B will receive 4 points and Team A will receive 0)
9. Opposition team will be awarded points for turning odd tricks on Trump bids only. One (1) point will be added to the opposition’s team score for every trick turned above 6 unless the bid was a one (1) in which case, it will begin after the 7th trick.
10. All No-trump bids, count as double points (ex. 4 No trump = 8 points).
11. When collecting won tricks please place them separately and neat on one side of the board.
Rules
1. Bidding out of turn will result in 3 options to the player who’s bid it actual was…
a. Take points
b. Request re-deal (deal does not travel).
c. Continue to play which prior bid will stand.
2. All players will play in turn.
3. If a play is made out of turn, (whether it was the 1st play of the hand or the prior trick was won by your partner and you played out of turn) points will be given to opposition team.
4. Dealing out of turn prior to 1st bid, you must re-deal. If bidding has begun, the hand will be considered accepted and the hand stands. Each team must only have two (2) deals per round.
5. Accidental exposed card 1st time will be warning there after points will be giving to opposition team.
6. During the game, any card played to the board will stand.
7. Score sheet and bid blind will be maintain by sitting team. Scores should be announced by the Table Score-keeper after each hand and bids should be announced prior to play by Table Score-keeper. No passing of sheet all questions should be directed to Table Score-keeper.
8. At the end of the round, each team must verify the score sheet prior to signing. Mathematic errors will be corrected (ex. Score for Team A on sheet says 10 but Tournament Score-keeper notices that the score actually equals 9 it will be corrected). On the other hand, if each team signs the sheet but later realize the scores are in reverse after the sheet has been turned into Tournament Score-keeper, the sheet will stand.
Anything not covered in listed rules will be referred to Tournament Director who holds the final ruling.
