1. TOURNAMENT STANDARDS
The Card Fest World Series (CFWS) Domino Tournament is built on three principles:
- Integrity
- Sportsmanship
- Competitive Excellence
Every participant is expected to compete honestly, respect officials and opponents, and uphold the reputation of the tournament.
Failure to follow these rules may result in penalties, point deductions, forfeiture, disqualification, or removal from the event.
2. SPINNER RULE
The first double played becomes the Spinner.
The Spinner:
- May be played from all four sides.
- Must be identified by both teams.
- Should be marked on the official scorecard.
Illegal Spinner Play
Playing from any domino that is not the Spinner is considered a Bogus Play and results in immediate disqualification from that game.
Highest Double Requirement
If a player possesses the highest double but intentionally begins with a lower double (for example opening with 5-5 while holding 6-6), and the violation is confirmed by an official, that player will be disqualified from the game.
Â
Â
3. SHUFFLING PROCEDURES
Players must thoroughly shuffle the dominoes before every hand.
No redraws or reshuffles are allowed because of:
- Too many doubles
- Poor hands
- Voids
- Any other unfavorable draw
The shuffle is final once completed.
4. EXPOSED DOMINOES
Any domino accidentally exposed during the shuffle must be:
- Turned face down.
- Returned to the set.
- Reshuffled before play begins.
5. BOGUS PLAY
A bogus play occurs when a domino is played illegally.
Examples include:
- Playing on the wrong suit
- Playing on the wrong end
- Playing on a non-spinner
- Making an illegal connection
Enforcement
- A bogus play must be called before another domino is played.
- Once another domino has legally been played, the previous play stands.
- Play stops immediately until an official makes a ruling.
Penalty: 10 Points
Disqualification from the game.
6. PASSING WITH A PLAYABLE DOMINO
A player may not draw from the boneyard if they already have a legal play.
If a player passes while holding a playable domino:
- The match stops immediately.
- An official is called.
- The player is disqualified from the game.
The opposing player is responsible for recognizing and reporting the violation.
7. MISPLAYED OR EXPOSED DOMINOES
If a domino is:
- Exposed
- Misplaced
- Played on the wrong end
and the mistake is identified before the next play:
- The domino must be corrected if applicable.
- If the move created an illegal play, it becomes a Bogus Play.
Any exposed domino that can be positively identified must be played at the first legal opportunity.
8. LOCKED GAMES
If neither team can continue play:
- The player/team with the lowest remaining pip count wins the hand.
- The winner also receives the opponents' remaining points.
- The player holding the highest double starts the next hand.
9. TIME PER PLAY
Players have 15 seconds to make each play.
When drawing from the boneyard, the 15-second clock begins once the player has a playable domino.
Slow Play Penalties
First Offense
- Warning
Second Offense
- 20-point penalty awarded to opponent
Third Offense
- Disqualification from the game
Officials are the sole authority in determining slow play.
10. MATCH TIME
Each Best-of-Three match has a 40-minute time limit.
When time expires:
- The player/team with the highest score wins.
If tied:
- Play enters sudden-death overtime.
- The first team to score wins.
Â
11. PLAYING OUT OF TURN
Playing before it is your turn results in:
- The domino becoming exposed.
- The domino must be played at the first legal opportunity.
12. PLAYER CONDUCT
Players must conduct themselves professionally at all times.
The following are prohibited:
- Arguing
- Profanity directed toward players or officials
- Threats
- Unsportsmanlike behavior
- Intimidation
- Harassment
- Excessive celebration intended to disrespect opponents
Players must raise their hand and request an official for any dispute.
Officials' decisions are final.
Violations may result in:
- Warning
- Point penalty
- Game forfeiture
- Tournament disqualification
13. SLAMMING DOMINOES
Players may firmly place dominoes.
Players may NOT:
- Slam dominoes
- Throw dominoes
- Disconnect the layout
- Damage tournament equipment
Any player who causes the layout to separate by slamming dominoes will be:
- Immediately disqualified.
Players are financially responsible for any damaged equipment.
Card Fest World Series maintains a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding abusive behavior toward tournament equipment.
14. CONCEALING DOMINOES
Dominoes must remain visible throughout play.
Players may not:
- Hide dominoes
- Cover dominoes
- Conceal dominoes from opponents
Violation results in:
Immediate disqualification without warning.
15. BREAK POLICY
No player may leave an active match without approval from a Tournament Official.
No restroom breaks are allowed during the final 15 minutes of a round.
Players leaving without authorization will be disqualified.
Â
16. OFFICIAL SCOREKEEPING
At the conclusion of every match, players must accurately record:
- Final score
- Wins
- Losses
Both players must verify the score before submitting the official scorecard.
Submitting false scores may result in tournament disqualification.
17. SUBSTITUTIONS
No substitutions are permitted.
If a player leaves during a match, they are disqualified.
18. BONEYARD PROCEDURES
Remaining dominoes in the boneyard must remain:
- Neatly stacked
- Organized
- Clearly visible
Players may not:
- Search through the boneyard
- Flick dominoes
- Rearrange the boneyard
Doing so may result in penalties or disqualification.
Â
19. OFFICIAL RULINGS
Only designated Card Fest World Series Tournament Officials may issue official rulings.
When a dispute occurs:
- Stop play immediately.
- Leave all dominoes exactly where they are.
- Raise your hand for an official.
- Do not alter the layout while waiting.
Failure to follow this procedure may result in the forfeiture of the dispute.

Card Fest World Series™
Official Domino Tournament Rulebook
"Where Every Move Matters. Every Game Counts. Every Champion Earns It."
I also recommend adding a final section titled "Tournament Format & Scoring" that explains the match structure (entry, race to points, best-of-three format, payouts, seeding, tiebreakers, and protest procedures). That makes the rulebook feel like a professional national championship document rather than just a list of rules.

20. TOURNAMENT FORMAT & SCORING

A. Tournament Entry
- All players must complete registration before the published deadline.
- Entry fees are non-refundable once tournament play begins.

Each game continues until one of the following occurs:
- A player reaches the designated winning score established by the Tournament Director.
OR - The official match time expires.
If the time limit expires:

Depending on tournament size, formats may include:

Tournament officials reserve the right to adjust the format to accommodate attendance.
Once the bracket has been published:
